4 Reasons Why Your Ads Aren't Working

June 06, 20242 min read

“Advertising isn’t a science. It’s persuasion. And persuasion is an art.”
– Bill Bernbach

Introduction:

Hey mompreneurs! Running ads can feel like trying to keep a dozen plates spinning while your toddler insists on "helping." Let's break it down with some humor and encouragement, shall we?

Let's face it, ads are hard. That's why people pay me the big bucks to build and manage their ads. When I look back through their accounts before I start building, these are the most common mistakes I see on Facebook and Instagram ads.

Tips For Better Ads

Here are the top 4 reasons your ads aren't working.

1. It's All About the Image

Using just a picture of yourself in an ad? Sorry, but your audience isn't that into you (yet). Instead, showcase a stunning house or a local hotspot. Get them curious, and then hit them with some educational or reassuring copy.

2. Budget Wisely, Grasshopper

Start small. Think $7 a day. It’s tempting to go big, but remember, if you flood yourself with leads and can’t follow up, they’ll go cold faster than a forgotten coffee that you've already microwaved twice.

3. Keep the Drama for Netflix

You've spent hours crafting the perfect ad. Then, the quickie you made while binge-watching “Bridgerton” brings in more leads. Don’t follow your heart; follow the data.

4. Double Down on What Works

If an ad performs well, give it more love (and money). Even if it wasn’t your favorite. Focus on results, not effort.

Build Better Ads Checklist:

Here is a quick checklist to get you started with you ads below. Remember imperfect action beats inaction, get started and keep publishing.

  • Start Small: Use Meta’s suggested options and start with a modest budget.

  • Visual Appeal: Test beautiful images and real real (you know what I mean) images. See which one works best for you people.

  • Text Variety: Create multiple text, headline, and description combinations. Use all the the available spaces for the ad type you have selected.

  • Storytime: Write like you're chatting with a friend. Be open and honest. Gone are the days of the tight frame.

  • Special Category: Select a special ad category if necessary. Or, your ads will get rejected and you will be frustrated.

  • Lead Forms: I you use one make them sharable and clear.

  • Strong CTA: Give something valuable in return. Have a clear call to action. Do not ask for likes or comments. But, it is ok to ask a question and tell them to let you know what they think.

  • Analytics Are Your Friend: Watch them closely. Use the filters to sort out the information you need.

  • Speedy Follow-Up: Respond within five minutes, or set up automations.
